Solutions for depression

There is no doubt that depression can be a crippling emotional disorder for which we don’t have a ready answer.  This has spawned an industry with a multitude of medications, which can be relieving, sometimes unfortunately generating side-effects that offset their benefits.

In women going through the menopausal transition declining levels of the hormone oestrogen and another hormone called dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHEA) have been associated with depression and augmenting these might alleviate this disorder.

Similarly low vitamin D status has also been linked with depression and there is evidence that supplementation can help to boost mood and treat this condition.
