Alcohol and the immune system

If you’ve ever had a routine blood test which revealed that your white cell army, an important component of your immune system that resists invading germs was diminished, there could be a number of reasons for this that your doctor would need to investigate including your consumption of alcohol.   A single alcoholic binge can weaken neutrophils, the front line white cell combatants,  rendering them less capable of engulfing and neutralizing insurgent bacteria.

 Fast forward this practice to a regular daily indulgence and all of the key protagonists of your immune system displayed in the below diagram will be neutered like a peace keeping force in a highly volatile militarized zone without weapons.
