Aside from aborting ageing and warding off Alzheimer’s preventing cancer is one of our prime concerns and many patients have asked me if there any blood tests they can have which might suggest that they have an increased cancer risk. I have always responded that there aren’t any aside from the prostate test but recent research indicates that there are blood test abnormalities generated by routine testing which are pointers to the emergence of cancer warranting urgent further investigation. These include anaemia, red blood cell irregularities, low levels of albumin, a protein measured when liver blood tests are performed, usually routinely, and low ferritin, together with raised levels of ferritin, CRP and ESR, all inflammatory markers.
All these tests are components of a wellness assessment and can be performed long before any cancer rears its ugly head.
They need not always by present concurrently and once they appear they merely suggest an increased risk (not everyone with anaemia or low albumin for example has cancer) but when noted would necessitate further scrutiny and investigation to determine if indeed any cancer has emerged.
