Yoga boosts brain function

While unquestionably maintaining our flexibility scientific evidence via brain scans also shows that yoga helps to promote the suppleness of our brains.  Scans on regular yoga practitioners showed that sectors of the brain responsible for memory, higher order mental activity and processing emotions were all enhanced.   Connections between neurons were also increased which would further facilitate better remembering.  Regions of the brain that are upregulated by yoga are the very areas that might help to prevent dementia.  These are the same locales that are bolstered by regular exercise.  The authors of this research also point out that relaxed slow breathing and meditation further compound these benefits.
